WHAT WE DO?

At the Bicocca Child&BabyLab, we are dedicated to exploring the development of perceptual, cognitive and social skills in children during their first year of life. Our research is essential to understanding how these skills emerge and transform during a crucial period marked by significant developmental changes.

HOW?

We use an innovative and interactive approach to engage children in our studies. We present simple geometric figures, photographs of faces, and short videos of actions on computer screens, carefully observing the direction of their gaze. This helps us understand whether children pick up on the differences between images and whether they demonstrate specific preferences.

In some of our studies, we record children's spontaneous muscle activity or cortical electrical activity as they observe images.

These techniques allow us to obtain valuable data on brain functioning and sensory responses, providing a more complete picture of development in early childhood.

SAFETY AND COMFORT

We always use non-invasive procedures designed specifically for babies in the early months of life. The safety and comfort of the young participants is our top priority, ensuring that every experience is positive and stress-free for them and their families.

MISSION

In the Bicocca Child & Baby Lab, we are dedicated to unlocking the secrets of cognitive development in the early years of a child's life. Through a state-of-the-art experimental approach, integrated with advanced neurophysiological techniques, we explore the mechanisms underlying cognitive development during growth.

INNOVATION AND RESEARCH

Our research not only enriches the fundamental understanding of the human mind and brain (basic research), but also lays the foundation for conducting applied research in clinical and educational settings.

In addition, we are committed to promoting good scientific practice by encouraging transparency, continuity, and critical engagement, including questioning everything that seems obvious.

TRAINING AND EXCELLENCE

We believe in the power of knowledge and are committed to training the next generation of scientists. We offer a challenging education for bachelor's, master's and doctoral students, encouraging endless curiosity and scientific wonder. Our goal is to cultivate independent researchers who are ready to challenge the boundaries of knowledge.

Join us on our journey to discover the wonders of the infant mind. At the Early Childhood Laboratory, the future of science is in our hands.
